Ten fun facts about Seinfeld

I love Seinfeld and it was very cool to discover these facts about the series.

  1. Elaine was the only member of the quartet to not appear in the pilot episode.
  2. George Constanza’s middle name is “Louis,” a homage of Lou Costello.
  3. In the original pilot script, Kramer was referred to as “Kessler” because the guy Larry David based the character on hadn’t yet given his consent to use his name.
  4. Nathan Lane, Steve Buscemi, David Alan Grier, Brad Hall and Larry Miller all auditioned for the role of George.
  5. Both Jerry and George’s dads were played by different actors in early episodes and later replaced.
  6. Larry David originally envisioned the Newman character as African-American and suicidal.
  7. The show was originally titled “The Seinfeld Chronicles,” but was changed because of a failed ABC show called “The Marshall Chronicles.”
  8. 76 million viewers (58 percent of all TV watchers that night) tuned in to the series finale, making it the third most-watched series finale behind “M*A*S*H*” and “Cheers.”
  9. Before Julia Louis-Dreyfus scored the role of Elaine, Patricia Heaton, Megan Mullally, and Rosie O’Donnell read for the part.
  10. The female lead in the show was originally supposed to be Claire, a waitress played by actress Lee Garlington.
